A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Jeffrey Greenfield, P.E.
Broward Chapter President, 2005/2006
I would like to personally
thank the officers, members, and ASCE members who attended our Holiday
Party dinner at the Downtowner on Thursday, December 8th. I would like also like to thank
the attendees who brought an unwrapped toy to the dinner. For those of you who didn’t
attend, we decided to donate the toys this year to Kids In Distress. You can donate to Kids In
Distress by check, through the web at www.kidsindistress.org or by
purchasing a gift certificate to Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, restaurants,
movie passes, sporting events, etc. Please join along with me and the
other members who will make a child feel a little happier this Holiday
Season.
I would also like to thank
our members who volunteered on Saturday, December 10, 2005 in support of
our Broward County School Partnership. Jim Thompson, Bill Francis and I helped judge this
year’s FLL Lego robotics competition at Crystal Lake Middle School. It’s
great to see the enthusiasm and teamwork while watching the students
(9-14 years old) from 23 local schools compete in a state qualifying
event.
Please attend our first
monthly meeting at the Downtowner on January 12, 2006 at lunch. We will have Mr. Ken Ammon of the
SFWMD speak to us on the Acceler8 program. This was originally scheduled for October but was
cancelled due to Hurricane Wilma.
In February we will be
sponsoring MathCounts on February 11, 2006 at Westglades Middle School
and holding our E-Week Banquet on February 18, 2006. Please plan on
volunteering to help proctor or grade for MathCounts, if possible, and
please save the date to attend our E-Week Banquet.
Steve Bassett is still
looking for a volunteer to serve on the FES Constructed Environment
Committee. If you know
anyone interested in serving, please have him/her contact Steve at (954)
942 - 7703.
I hope to see you at one of
our functions and I also hope you can further the education of a future
engineer by participating in one of our Broward County School Partnership
activities. Happy Holidays to you and your family and best wishes for a
happy, healthy, and successful 2006.
Jeff Greenfield,
P.E., President
